Vincent Yang, piano
Chinese-Canadian pianist, Vincent Yang has performed extensively throughout North America and Europe. Vincent has enjoyed performing a wide variety of repertoire ranging from the canon of the Western music to giving world premieres of contemporary works. Vincent is a prizewinner of many national and international competitions, having won top prizes at the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition, the Susan Torres Award, the Grand Junction International Young Artists Competition as well as receiving awards from the International Keyboard Institute and Festival, Young Musician’s Foundation and the Musical Merit Foundation of San Diego.
Vincent made his orchestral debut with the Torrance Symphony performing Grieg’s Piano Concerto at the age of 16. Recent orchestral appearances have included performances with the Lamont Symphony Orchestra and Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra. As a chamber musician, Vincent has performed with groups in North America and Portugal. He has been a part of ensembles that have had performances broadcast on KUSC Radio (Los Angeles) and Colorado Public Radio. He has collaborated with musicians from the Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Diego Symphony as well as the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa. He has participated in chamber music festivals such as Bowdoin Music Festival and the Banff Centre and is in demand as a duo collaborator.
As an advocate for using music to help his community, Vincent has frequently played in retirement homes, Alzheimer care facilities and for the incarcerated. Vincent has also participated in recitals to raise money for cancer awareness and food security. Vincent began his formal piano studies in Ottawa at the age of seven and upon his family’s relocation to California, he began studies at the University of Southern California. He proceeded to complete his Bachelors of Music at USC and pursued graduate studies at the University of Denver and Texas Christian University. Vincent has been fortunate to have received musical guidance from Stewart Gordon, Steven Mayer and Tamas Ungar. He has received additional coaching from Joseph Kalichstein, Earl Wild and Ruth Slenczynska.
