Ștefan Macovei is a winner of numerous national and international competitions, including the Grand Prize at the “Irina Șatchi” Competition, the 1st Prize at the “PianoTalents” Competition in Milan, the Grand Prize at the “Tadini” Competition, the Special Prize “Giovanni Turcotti” for the best performance of a sonata by L. van Beethoven at the “Valsesia Musica” Competition and First Prize at the “C. Franck” Competition. Most recently he distinguished himself as the recipient of the Yamaha Foundation Scholarship in Scandinavia and by winning First Prize at the “R. Langgaard” competition in Copenhagen.

As a soloist, he has played with orchestras such as the “Ion Dumitrescu Philharmonic”, the “Mihail Jora Philharmonic”, the “Südwestdeutsch Philarmonie” in Konstanz, and the “A. Vivaldi” orchestra.

As a chamber musician, he had the opportunity to perform with artists such as Boris Brovstyn, Anna-Liisa Bezdrony, Erik Schumann, Jan-Erik Gustafssohn, Johannes Thorstens, Răzvan Popovici, and to work with masters such as Salvatore Accardo and Michele Campanella.  

He is a scholarship receiver of courses such as the “Uttwiler Meisterkurse”, the “Tadini International Piano Campus” in Lovere, the “SoNoRo Interferenze Workshops”, the “Franco Corelli Academy” of Camerino and the “Boswil Chamber Music Summit” in Switzerland. He is also a grant receiver of the Feldthusens Fond in Denmark.

In addition to his regular concert activity in Denmark and Italy, he has also performed in Romania, Spain, Sweden, Russia, Lithuania, Malta, Switzerland, Germany, and France. 

He had the opportunity to take part in many master classes with teachers such as Andrzej Jasińsky, Diana Ketler, Natalia Trull, Jan Jiracek von Arnim, Boris Berman and Anna Fedorova.

Born in 1999 in Nicosia, Ștefan Macovei graduated from the “Gheorghe Dima” National Academy of Music of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, where he completed his Bachelor’s Degree under the guidance of Prof. Gavrișiu Cipriana. In 2021 and 2022 he has been a student at the Accademia del Ridotto in Italy, in the class of  Prof. Vincenzo Balzani under whose close guidance he had been since 2016. Since 2023 he is studying for his Master’s degree at The Royal Danish Academy of Music in the class of Prof. Marianna Shirinyan.
