Said Gobechiya
Said Gobechiya was born in the Republic of Abkhazia in 1993.
At the age of six, Said began his musical journey by learning how to play the piano and singing at the same time. At the age of sixteen, he entered the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music in the class of Irina Dolzhenko, People’s Artist of Russia. Already during his studies at the Academy, Said succeeded operatic roles of Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Mozart’s Papageno, and Puccini’s Marcel.
After finishing the Academy in Moscow, Said graduated with a master’s degree from the University of Music and Art in Vienna.
During his studies, Said signed a contract with the Theater an der Wien, and a year earlier he played the role of Nardo in An Imaginary Gardener by Mozart at the Vienna Chamber Opera.
Despite his distinct passion for opera music, Said always pays special attention to the chamber repertoire, as a result of which he won several important chamber competitions such as the International Georgy Sviridov Competition in Kursk, the Nina Dorliak Competition, the prize of the audience voting at the Haydn International Competition in Rohrau, as well as the «Academy» Opera Competition in Perm, where Said won 2 prizes and was invited to Mexico by the competition’s jury chairperson, Mexican opera singer Olivia Gorra, where he toured in Mexico City and Oaxaca.
Along with exceptional musical skills, Said is good at organizing events. Since 2015, the singer has been hosting the «Grand Opera Gala» festival in his country, the Republic of Abkhazia, and has invited various orchestras and artists to stage opera performances and concerts.
