RHYTHMIE WONG, fortepiano / piano

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Rhythmie started piano lessons first with her mother and was soon admitted to the Junior Program of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where she also obtained the Bachelor’s degree under the tutelage of Professor Eleanor Wong. Afterwards, Rhythmie studied at the New England Conservatory, Cologne University of Music and Dance and Münster Music University with Professor Victor Rosenbaum, Professor Claudio Martinez- Mehner and Professor Heribert Koch. She also excels in academic work that she was on the Dean’s list during her studies in Boston. With her deep interest in historical instruments and performance practices, she also studies Fortepiano with Professor Gerald Hambitzer. 

Rhythmie’s recent appearances include solo recitals at the Monheimer Klaviersommer 2022, Sussex International Interview Concert Series, Karlovac Piano Festival in Zagreb and Haywards Heath Music Society Concert Series. She was also invited to perform across different platforms and has been featured by the Radio Television Hong Kong, TVK Cambodia, Teledifusao de Macau, Deutschlandfunk Kultur and the Hong Kong Educational Television. She is a prize winner in the 2022 Steinway Förderpreis Münster and Sussex International Piano Competition. She also gained 1st Prize, Audience Prize and Best Interpretation Award of a Croatian composition in the Karlovac International Piano Competition. Being the 1st Prize winner of the Valletta International Piano Competition New York International Artist Piano Competition and the Kawai Asia Piano Competition, she is also a laureate of the Dorothy Mackenzie Artist Recognition Award. 

Apart from playing the piano, Rhythmie has also written music for micro- movies and enjoys exploring the different characters of musical instruments. She plays the violin and clarinet, and she composes. As a teenager, she was a violinist in the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra in Hong Kong. Her “Narnia Fantasy” written for Oboe, Violin, Horn, Cello and Piano was premiered in 2011 while a piano solo piece, <The End is Not the End>, inspired by writer Mitch Albom, was premiered in April 2014, as a tribute to the victims in Boston Marathon.
