Maria Asseeva
Maria Asseeva was born in Moscow into an artistic family. Her mother was the director of the Samara Music School; her father was a direct descendant of the famous Russian poet Nikolaj Nikolaevic’ Assev. Following her success at the Kabalevsky All Russian Competition, in 1968, she entered the Moscow Conservatoire under Prof. Dorensky. In 1977, Maria graduated with distinction from the Conservatoire, and two years later she obtained the Post Graduate Diploma from the same Conservatoire. Maria Asseeva has enhanced the best of Russian Golden Music Fund traditions.
Among those who supported her unique piano talent, were such legends from the Russian school of piano as: Jacob Milstein, Lev Oborin, Tatiana Nikolajeva, Jacob Flier, Emil Giles and Jacob Zak.
An established piano recitalist, soloist with state orchestras, and accompanist, Maria Asseeva has extensively performed in her native Russia, across Europe as well as on the African continent. Maria’s outstanding talent has won her a prominent place on the Musical Olympus of Nigeria as founder of the new piano school and principle pianist of the Music Society of Nigeria.
In May 2003, upon conclusion of the Session of Commonwealth in Abuja, she was invited to perform before 53 Heads of State and Her Majesty, Queen Elisabeth II.
