Fabio Furia
He started his music studies at the age of 7, electing piano and the classical accordion under the guide of Professor Eliana Zajec. Later, at the age of 16 he decided to take up clarinet, enrolling at the Conservatorio di Cagliari and taking his diploma with full marks, after only 5 years, under the guidance of M° Roberto Gander. He specialized with the best and renowned clarinetists in the world such as Antony Pay, Alessandro Carbonare and Wenzel Fuchs. He has been appointed “first clarinet” at the World Symphony international Orchestra with headquarters in Seoul. He is one among the few Italian clarinetists able to play the Wurlitzer Oellher German system clarinet. At present he teaches clarinet at the Scuola Civica di Musica in Cagliari.
His career as a concert performer has led him to the most important venues all over the world: Dvorak Hall at the Rudolfinum in Praga, the Grosser Saal in Klagenfurt (where he played with the Kso Kartner Sinfonieorchester), and the Bozar Theatre in Bruxelles to name just a few of them. His talent has been highly appreciated and welcomed in many national and international festivals and institutions such as: Festival of Lubjana, Emilia Romagna Festival, Festival de Nancy, il Maggio dei Monumenti (Naples), Nei Suoni dei Luoghi, Festival Spaziomusica, Settimane Musicali Bresciane, Les Floraison Musicales, Recontres musicales en Lorraine and so on. He has collaborated with fine musicians and ensembles such as: Solisti della Scala, Antony Pay, Franco Maggio Ormezowski, Stefano Pagliani, Roberto Cappello, Turner String Quartett, Kodàly String Quartett, Budapest String Orchestra, Accademia Strumentale di Roma, Pierre Hommage, Michel Michalakakos, Jean Ferrandis, Hugues Leclere, Salzburg Chamber Soloists, Orchestra Sinfonica di Kiev, Baden Baden Sinphony Orchestra, I Filarmonici Italiani, Gubbio Festival Ensemble, Quartetto Archimede, Duo Pepicelli ecc…
He has performed as a soloist in Italy, Canada, Mexico, Croatia, Germany, Austria, Spain, Japan, Korea, United States, France Slovenia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Check Republic. His musical interests are varied; they range from classical jazz to Klezmer music, from ethnic music to choro. He is the co-founder of the Duo+2 Quartet, (set up in 2007), (Sandro Gemmiti-piano, Fabio Gemmiti accordion, Claudio Campadello double bass), a mature and eclectic band, renowned and appreciated for its many-sided repertoire and original arrangements. Furthermore he is deeply interested in Sardinian music and collaborates with the composer and mandola player Mauro Palmas. A large part of his activity is devoted to Tango and the bandoneon, the instrument that better represents Fabio as a musician. He is the founder and the soloist of the “Contramilonga”, a band with a specialized Tango repertoire and with which he performs all over the world. This is a multifaceted band, characterized by a wide repertoire, with a bandoneon-piano basis that allows the most varied accompaniments.
The artistic proposals of the band range from the instrumental concert to performances with modern dance or tango professional dancers, to concert-shows with multi-media scenic elements.He is the President Of the Cultural Association “Anton Stadler” and the inventor and artistic director of important music events and festivals including The international Festival of Chamber Music in Iglesias, now at its XI edition. Since 2008 he has been the artistic director of “Vinum in Musica”- an event, that takes place in the wineries in the area of the Sulcis Iglesiente.
