Edgar Cardoso

Edgar Cardoso is embarking on a very exciting and promising musical journey around the globe, with the rapid increase of his international reputation.

The young Portuguese pianist has already performed in several places around the world, including successful concert tours in South Korea and Tunisia, and recitals in France (Paris & Aquitaine region), Germany (Frankfurt & Stuttgart), and USA (Honolulu & Los Angeles), to name a few. He has also been invited to perform in important festivals, such as the Tallinn Chamber Music Festival in Estonia, the Belgrade Chopin Fest in Serbia and European Conservatoires Festival “Window to Europe” in Russia. He had his debut as soloist with Gnesin’s Symphonic Orchestra in Moscow and following performances with Norfolk Youth Orchestra (UK), Orquestra do Norte (Portugal) and Trinity Wind Orchestra (UK).

The amount of concerts he has had is partly due to having obtained more than 50 national and international prizes in piano competitions in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Lithuania, Malta, Morocco, Tunisia, Russia, Serbia and USA. These include important 1st Prizes at the Santa Cecilia International Competition (Porto), the Concours International du Mesnil des Arts (Montaut/Villeréal), the International Competition-Festival “Music without Limits” (Druskininkai), the Concours International de Piano de Tunis, the Concorso Internazionale “Musica Insieme” (Musile di Piave), the Alfred Kitchin and the John Halford competitions in London. He also takes part in many Summer festivals on a regular basis, receiving tutelage from some of the most important piano masters alive, such as Paul Badura-Skoda, John Perry, Boris Berman, Akiko Ebi, Joaquín Soriano, Jon Nakamatsu, Josep Colóm, Luiz de Moura e Castro, Peter Donohoe, Philippe Cassard, Sergei Senkov, Dmitri Alexeev, among many others.

Edgar began his musical studies at the age of four in his hometown Porto. Álvaro Teixeira Lopes supervised him during his Bachelor’s degree at Universidade de Aveiro, although in his Senior year he went to Germany for an Exchange Program at Musikhochschule Stuttgart, where he studied with Friedemann Rieger and Andrzej Ratusinski. In both institutions he achieved top marks in all subjects, which granted him several scholarships. After winning the competition in Tunis, he was invited by Deniz Gelenbe, Head of Keyboard at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance, to study with her for a Master’s degree with a full scholarship. He obtained the best mark of the school on his Master’s finals and proceeded to an Artist Diploma. At Trinity Laban he received precious guidance from Pascal Rogé, Margaret Fingerhut and Eugene Asti, among other members of the faculty. His studies in London have been generously supported by the Gladys Bratton Scholarship, the Joan Greenfield Fellowship Trust Scholarship, Tillett Trust, Colin Keer Trust, Stopford Westminster Bursary, ESU Scholarship, and Noswad Charity Award.
