ALEXANDER PANFILOV, piano
Pianist Alexander Panfilov is one of the leading Russian musicians who have established themselves in Europe in the 2010s. A versatile artist with a concert repertoire running from the Baroque to the contemporary era, Panfilov has been successful as a concert pianist throughout Europe, as well as the US and China. Panfilov has played at some of the world’s top venues as a recitalist, including New York’s Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall in London, Moscow and St. Petersburg Philharmonic Halls, and the Vienna Musikverein. His concerto appearances have included those with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, La Verdi Orchestra of Milan, City Orchestra of Granada, Musikkollegium Winterthur, Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra of Norway, and other. The pianist was invited to perform at the festivals such as Interlaken Festival, Menuhin Festival, New Year Festival Gstaad, Oxford Lieder Festival, Ribble Valley Piano Week, Brighton Festival. His performances were broadcast on Radio BBC 3, Swiss Radio SRF, Classic FM, Radio Nacional Espana, National Television of Romania, and on Medici.tv digital platform. Panfilov was born in Moscow and took up the piano at age six. He studied at Moscow’s famed Gnessin Music School and then went on to the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where his teacher was Andrei Diev. The pianist moved to England to study on a full scholarship at Manchester’s Royal Northern College of Music with Graham Scott. He rounded out his training at the Music University of Vienna with Jiracek von Arnim. Panfilov is a winner of 15 International Piano Competitions, Including Top of the World in Tromsø, Norway, Rina Sala Gallo in Monza, Italy, Premio Jaen in Spain, and Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition. He is an Honorary Associate Artist of the Royal Northern College of Music. Panfilov made his recording debut in 2018 with an album of music by Debussy, Manuel Seco de Arpe, Mussorgsky, and Albéniz. He followed that up a year later, with the Russian Album of music for Piano and Cello, recorded with cellist Christoph Croisé.
