Edoardo Turbil, piano
Edoardo Turbil is one of the most brilliant Italian pianists of his generation. Praised by Paul Badura-Skoda and Solomon Mikowsky, he has been hailed as an “excellent pianist, with sensitivity and a well-developed technique.” Turbil has performed worldwide in prestigious venues, including Teatro Regio in Turin, Shenzhen Concert Hall, Festival of the Two Worlds in Spoleto, and Alte Oper Mozart Saal in Frankfurt. In 2011, he represented Italy at the Cultural Days Festival organized by the European Central Bank, performing alongside Claudio Abbado and Uto Ughi. Turbil’s style synthesizes the Italian and American piano schools, with a repertoire ranging from classics to lesser-performed composers like Clementi, Sinigaglia, Villa-Lobos, Debussy, Messiaen, and Granados. He is known for his light touch and vivid musical narratives.
Turbil has received numerous awards, including the Gold Medal with High Distinction at the Manhattan International Music Competition, Third Grand Prize at the Chicago International Music Competition, First Prize at the 28th World Music Competition, and First Place at the American Protégé International Piano and String Competition, etc.
He has performed extensively with cellist Miriam Prandi. Turbil’s training includes studies with Maria Tipo and Andrea Lucchesini, Solomon Mikowsky, and Yoheved Kaplinsky at The Juilliard School, where he completed his DMA. His thesis on composer Leone Sinigaglia earned the Richard F. French Doctoral Prize.
Turbil teaches masterclasses at institutions like Shenzhen Lang Lang Music World. He has held positions at The Juilliard School, Livorno Conservatory, and Turin Verdi Conservatory. He is currently a Piano Major Lecturer at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen.
As of March 2023, Turbil currently serves as President of the WPTA Piano Pedagogy Chapter. He was also the Artistic Director of the 2024 Centro Pecci Piano Festival in Prato, Italy.
Turbil began studying piano at age four and, from eleven to twenty-one, studied under Maria Tipo. At sixteen, he achieved the Italian Piano Diploma with top marks and honorable mention from the Alessandria State Conservatory. He furthered his education at the Fiesole Music School, Ferrara State Conservatory, and the Manhattan School of Music, culminating in a piano DMA from The Juilliard School.
